Robert consulted with me because his wife, Andrea, was no longer interested in having sex with him. "Andrea says she feels objectified when we make love, and I don't know what that means," he stated. "I love her and I don't think I see her as an object."
"Well, when you want to make love to her, why are you wanting to make love? What is motivating you?" I asked.
As we explored this question, it became apparent that Robert's desire for Andrea was generally motivated, not only by his physical need for sex, but also by his need to be validated by her and to relieve his stress. No time in his discussion with me did he say he wanted to make love to her as an expression of his love for her. At no time did he state that there were many ways he enjoyed sharing his love with her, such as time together, sharing fun, affection, cuddling. His focus in being with Andrea was in having sex with her, and if she didn't want to, he was generally angry or withdrawn. While he professed that he was expressing his love when I asked him about it, his behavior was anything but loving.
"So, if she doesn't feel turned on to you, and would rather cuddle or spend time together in some other way,3161 Ugg Classic Short Sparkles Black Boots, that's not okay with you? You don't stay loving with her unless she does what you want?"
"Yeah, I guess so. I guess that's what I do."
Robert was quite distressed to learn that this is why Andrea felt objectified, and also to learn that he was using sex addictively. In Robert's case, he was using sex to avoid dealing with his stress and low self-esteem. He was using Andrea and sex as a Band-Aid to temporarily alleviate anxiety. And, he confessed, he went further with his addiction. He would masturbate to pornography and attend expensive strip clubs in his efforts avoid responsibility for his own feelings and needs. Underneath his addictive behavior, Robert felt deeply insecure and afraid much of the time. Rather than dealing with his fears and insecurities, he was using sex, just as someone else might use food, drugs or alcohol.
As long as Robert was coming to her needy rather than loving, there was nothing for Andrea to feel turned on to. Andrea wanted their sex to be an expression of their love for each other, not a way to relieve Robert's anxiety or fill his emptiness, and had reached the place in her own growth where she was no longer willing to be used by him.
Fortunately, Robert was motivated to do the inner work necessary to heal his sexual addiction. Through his work with the Inner Bonding process that I teach, Robert was able to establish, for the first time in his life,If you've got a real block around scarcity, a connection with a spiritual source of love and guidance. Through learning to work with his spiritual guidance, he was able to begin to heal the limiting beliefs he had absorbed as he was growing up about his adequacy and worth. As he began to discover the beauty within him - his gentleness, integrity, creativity, and ability to care about others - he began to feel much better about himself. He learned to speak up for himself in work and social situations, as well as with Andrea. As he learned be loving with himself, the emptiness within him that led to his neediness gradually diminished. The more he was loving with himself, the more powerful he felt, and the more he was able to express his love to Andrea. When the day came that Andrea actually felt his love rather than his neediness and emptiness, her sexual feelings for Robert returned.
Robert's desire for pornography and strip clubs gradually vanished as he learned to take full responsibility for his own feelings and needs,He loves to do this. He still loves to make love with Andrea, but he no longer gets angry and withdrawn if she is not turned on. He no longer needs her to take away his anxiety or validate his adequacy. He is no longer using sex addictively,but to the "interpretation" we give to that circumstance..

Life has many moments consisting of many things. That sounds pretty simple. It is. The previous sentences are just a non-anxious way of getting some words on paper as I begin this section on proactive ways of managing anxiety.
There are many causes of anxiety: some are obvious, others not. There are many effective ways of treating anxiety: psychotherapy and psychotropic medications are the two most common. As long as these anxieties are not debilitating and the person having them is not in need of professional mental health treatment, the anxiety can be readily managed. If not, Get Therapy!

The first three sentences are essentially words strung together that serve no real purpose other than as my beginning. I could have begun somewhere else. None of the words or the points I made was really relevant to this section except that they began "It". They were used to make my point: that the way to break anxiety about doing anything is to breathe and do. The rest will follow with less anxiety associated with "It".
You see anxiety is not fear. It is the illusion of fear. It is the body's defense against perceived fear. If there truly is something to be frightened of, this section of the book and the recommendations included do not apply.
Most of us equate anxiety with fear. We fear the feelings of anxiety and equate the sources of our anxiety as legitimate issues to respond to as if; there really is something to be frightened about. Avoidance of fear/avoidance of anxiety is interpreted as synonymous by our feeling system.

because we are entering the climax of history

The Purpose of Creation
"I want to know how God created this world. I am not interested in this or that phenomenon, in the spectrum of this or that element. I want to know His thoughts; the rest are details". Albert Einstein

G-d is infinite and ungraspable. By definition, the more we understand, the more there is to understand.
But to know how G-d created this world, His intent and purpose, not only is possible, but part of our mission on this earth.
Kabbalah is the key.
Some traditions describe our world as a school; a place where souls come and go in order to learn important lessons. But, even though incarnation in a physical body is the vehicle through which the soul expresses itself and its potential, this is far from the whole story.
Life in a body does more than usher the soul through a series of developmental stages. The ultimate aim of life in a body is to provide us with the chance to become intimate with G-d, to know His thoughts'.
Kabbalah explains that there are many levels of spiritual beings, such as angels, and that all of these are powerfully aware of their spiritual source. In fact, this experience is the most important feature of their existence. It defines who and what they are,then you are guaranteed that you will be getting nothing but negative results as well.. To these beings, the experience of G-d is all encompassing,I feel . . .. They relate to Him like a humble and insignificant servant relates to a great and mighty king. The servant's entire life is devoted to the king; the king is his whole reality. But the two remain separated by an enormous, unbridgeable chasm. The servant will serve the king faithfully, but he will never be able to relate to him.
This is not true for us.
Paradoxically, it is precisely through our limiting experience as souls in physical bodies that we can come to know G-d. We will know Him not only from a distance, as servants, but up close and personal. Passionately. Intimately.
Let's look at why.
G-d is above it all', independent of, all circumstances; Creator and source. He is the only reality. Everything else that exists is only a highly limited expression of Him. The beings that inhabit the many spiritual worlds all take vast pleasure in His presence, praise and serve Him. But beyond that they are passive recipients. Like rays of sunlight to the sun, they experience and express the light of their source, but no more than that.
Physical beings are different. By definition, we physical beings, in our untransformed state, cannot sense our spiritual source. Instead of experiencing G-d as the center of our existence, as the sun, and ourselves as a ray of sunlight, we feel like the center. We ourselves, and our own perspective, are more real to us than anything else.
It is our nature to feel sourceless, separate,3161 Ugg Classic Short Sparkles Black Boots, alone, and centered in our own unique and limited experience. Despite the fact that G-d is the only reality, our experience contradicts this fact. Instead, we inevitably experience ourselves, our circumstances and our perspective as real and G-d as a concept.
This is as far as you can get from the truth.
In addition, this essential isolation and self-centeredness is the root cause of most of the conflict and suffering that human beings experience. We are cut off from the larger picture. We are disconnected from each other. We feel insubstantial and vulnerable. We compete for resources, like love, attention, success, recognition and money. Much of the time we experience life as the struggle for physical and emotional survival.
For all of these reasons, Kabbalah calls this physical world "the lowest world".
But paradoxically, this lowest world' is where all the action is. This is the only place where the purpose of Creation can be fulfilled. This is true because of our uniquely limited nature, because of the fact that we feel sourceless, solid and alone. Only we physical beings have the potential to actually relate' to G-d, who is in fact, sourceless, and alone' - the only reality.
Here's the paradox: As long as we are in the dark, blind to our source, we remain the lowest world', a world of darkness, suffering and evil.
But, when we begin to see through our own limitations to our source and purpose, we become the highest. We will always maintain the sense of unique selfness' and solidity that makes us human, but this selfness' will be fully illuminated by something beyond the limitations of our human experience. We will gain a tangible awareness of G-d's presence and purpose in every detail of our human lives. What initially concealed the truth will ultimately reveal it.
Through this process, this physical, lowest' world will become the place where G-d is most fully expressed, His true home.
This transformation is the purpose of creation. You are here to take a world that is blind to the truth, filled with darkness, negativity and evil, and transform it into a home for G-d. To reconnect with your source. To allow the light of your soul, and the awareness of your Creator, to shine through the limitations of your solid, physical body and linear mind.
In embracing this mission, you will begin by transforming yourself and your environment. More and more, you will live a life that is an expression of your own highest potential. And in doing so, you will create an inhabitable world; a world that is a joy to live in, a true home.
This is the ultimate win-win. And, by the way, it's the ultimate reward. Kabbalah views the afterlife as a temporary stopping place between one incarnation and the next, where learning is processed, corrections made,how convenient, and the soul cleansed and refreshed. The Gift of Listening
Give something different this Valentine's Day instead of chocolate or flowers. (Save the chocolate for me.) Give something precious and unique, something that only you can give. Something suitable for all ages and all relationships. Give the gift of listening. Really listening.
How often do we sit down and listen to our loved ones? The vast majority of our conversations with others occur while we are doing something else. We're driving, or cooking dinner or tidying up. We're watching TV or listening to both kids and the dog. We're preoccupied with our own thoughts. Or we just tune the conversation completely out. Our mental processes go like this:
Hmm, I like that song on the radio. I wonder who does it,and which are repeated many times,3161 Ugg Classic Short Sparkles Black Boots? I wish he'd get rid of that shirt. It's a bad color for him. Oh, dang, I just broke a nail. I wonder what I should fix for dinner? Is he still talking about the car? Yup. Why doesn't he just get it fixed? I don't get what's the big deal here.
Of course, sometimes we do sit down and pay attention, or so we think. While we are focused on the conversation, it's usually with the goal of coming up with the next clever thing to say, or a killer argument to the point being made.
What does it mean to really listen? It means paying attention to what the other person is saying, without being distracted by outside events, our thoughts, or planning what to say next. It brings improved connection, communication and understanding to any relationship. It tells the other person that they matter; that you care enough about them to make them a priority, a focus. It lets them know that they are more important to you than washing dishes or fixing supper. Now that's a real gift.
Like everything else in life, listening is a skill. It takes practice. Here are a few guidelines that might help:
Find a quiet place where the two of you can sit down together, with no distractions. It doesn't have to be at home. My husband and I often go down to a pub and grab a quiet table in the back when we want to just sit and talk.
Get really curious about what the other person is saying. Ask open-ended questions, such as "What else?" "Tell me more about that." "How does this matter to you?" Be careful not to ask questions that sound judgmental, though, such as "Why on earth would you do that?" or "What were you thinking?".
Set up a ground rule that nobody gets to be wrong. Don't judge the other person. Just accept for now.
By the same token, don't try to fix things, or solve problems, unless you're asked to. Often all someone needs is a place to talk things out so they can discover their own solutions. Give the other person the respect of believing that they are resourceful and able to resolve things on their own.
Don't interrupt,no matter what your background or age.. Wait until the other person is finished talking before you jump in. Let there be natural gaps in the conversation. You don't need to fill every second with talk.
Maintain eye contact, but don't stare.
Be encouraging. Let the other person know you're really listening. Repeat key words, say "uh-huh", nod in agreement.
Acknowledge the other person's feelings and point of view. Try phrases such as "What I'm hearing is . . ." or "I'm getting that . . ." This also helps to eliminate misunderstandings.
Finally, pay attention to body language and energy,you just received a really harsh performance evaluation from your boss. Sit with an open, receptive posture. Angle your body slightly towards the other person, or lean in a bit. Do not cross your arms across your chest defensively. In addition, notice how the other person is sitting. Be aware of the cadence of their words and the energy behind them.
Following those nine guidelines will drastically improve your listening skills. Which will drastically improve communication. Which will drastically improve your relationships. And that's a Valentine's gift that will keep on giving - both to the other person and to you.

Contrary to popular belief

"What do you want to be when you grow up?"
Remember that question from your younger days? Adults seem almost programmed to ask it, don't they? Maybe you remember asking your own or another's child recently that same question. Remember?
I do.
And - do you remember any of your answers to that question? I know it probably changed many times throughout the process of "growing up" but can you remember some of the answers?
I remember some of mine: policeman, fireman,Some mornings a brownie for breakfast does it for me, architect, lawyer. I'm sure there were more but can't remember too many at this point. What I do remember is the feeling that went along with the decision of choosing one or another. It was a feeling of being in a position of importance. To be able to help others in need or to be looked upon with respect and admiration because I created something really great.
I didn't know it then but I was expressing the drive to be a leader. Maybe not the 'top' leader like a general or the president but a leader who made things happen in the world. I wanted to be someone who lead the way, not followed. Many people would say that I, and many greater men and women before me were born or destined to be leaders - as though fate had somehow selected us at birth to be who we are today. I know that many believe that leaders are born, but I can assure you that leaders are made.
Contrary to popular belief, birth has nothing to do with being a leader. However,"Why do you keep that information to yourself, learning to develop the traits of confidence, compassion, respect, and many more, do. Having a vision and the ability to communicate that vision to others - setting down a workable plan and having the discipline to act upon that plan until the vision, goal or dream has become real in the world - are the signs of a leader.
I believe that whenever we feel the drive to step out of our day-to-day routine - to volunteer time and energy to a local cause like the fire department, Scouts, or other group - and yes, to join a martial arts school - we are seeking to get back to that drive toward leadership.
Everyone, whether secretly or publicly wants to be a leader. Parents want their children to grow up to be leaders - not followers. It's a natural drive. But, many of us either have not been 'lucky' enough to encounter role models in our lives who pointed the way or showed us how, or we did and didn't recognize the gift presented to us at the time. What if we didn't overlook the gift hidden in the question? What if we didn't forget the dreams of the child still there within us?
In the martial arts,3161 Ugg Classic Short Sparkles Black Boots, the symbol of leadership is the Black Belt. In many arts, like ninjutsu, it 's not so much the belt as the rank, skill, or title of authority that tells others that you have more to offer than a physical ability to defend yourself.

He or she is powerful enough to do real damage but exceeds that ability with the power of choice - the power to choose peace over conflict. And you can see it when they move. You can feel it when you're near them. You can sense it when they speak.

Knowledge that I can now pass on to my children and students.

Spiritual beliefs give us strength as lathe and plaster gives strength to the walls of a house. A brick or stucco house is like a strong belief in a power greater than our selves.
We trust our exterior walls to keep us warm in winter and cool in summer. It doesn't matter if your walls are cedar, stucco,along the journey., brick or vinyl. Likewise, It doesn't matter what you believe as long as you believe in something.
In AA newcomers are told to come to believe in a power greater than them selves, even a door knob. In order to stay sober they must come to believe.
So in building your blueprint for life you must always believe in something to create strong walls for your house.
Whatever your religion or faith creating a strong wall of faith will serve you well.
Belief makes us strong and helps us to control how we live.

Webster defines believe as holding an opinion. You have opinions right? Then you have the makings of belief and faith.
Webster also defines believe as to accept something as true, genuine or real so you surely have that much belief.
You probably have a belief but haven't taken the time to define it. You may be a member of an organized religion. You can design a blue print for living no matter your religion or faith. It only requires you believe in something.
Examine:
Take a look at your own faith. What do you believe,joy and meaning in your life.? Do you believe there is a power greater than you? If not try faking it for a week; absolutely trusting that if you fail, the Universe will keep on being the Universe.

Let me ask you, if you passed away tomorrow, would the world stop? If you answer no, you have faith. There is something beyond you. So that is enough faith for you to start building the walls for your blueprint for living.
Now you can put in the rebar, lathe and plaster, add insulation and get ready for wiring.
You'll add exterior stucco, brick, wood or vinyl.
Your faith provides you with the walls to protect you from the outside elements.
Consider:
Success means having the courage, the determination and the will to become the person you believe you were meant to be.

Belief is a habit of mind in which trust or confidence is placed in some person or thing. Do you believe the sun will rise tomorrow morning? Then you have faith.
Faith is base on the reality of some being or phenomenon based on examination of evidence.
If you didn't belief you could hit a golf ball down the fairway you wouldn't swing. Well with my golf swing, this might be a poor example.
Faith is certitude even where there is no evidence or proof.
Decide:
The relationship between belief and knowledge is subtle. People distinguish between what they know and what they believe. They consider both to be true.
Epistemology is the philosophical study of knowledge and belief,improve their personality. Knowledge can be thought of as justified belief. Belief is knowledge if the belief is true. And if the believer has justification for believing.
A false belief is not considered knowledge. A truth that nobody believes is not knowledge.
Beliefs are assumptions we make about ourselves, others and the world. And about how we expect things to be. How we think things really are.

With all that is going on in our world, the times we face seem to be especially challenging for many. Our conscious mind operates from a place of fear and often communicates with us in a way that makes us feel less than we truly are. The conscious mind will also look for evidence in our lives to prove its point,and usually this causes to smile. By comparison, and it never seems to have any difficulty in finding and informing us of this evidence. All too often this evidence seems overwhelming, and so we succumb and accept it as reality.
The reality however, is that you are NOT your conscious mind and you are NOT what your conscious mind tells you that you are. So no matter what may have occurred in your life this past year, or in any year through out your life, I want you to know that that event or experience does not define who you are.
I encourage you to get out of your head for a moment, and connect with that place that knows who you truly are. Connect to your heart where there is only unconditional love, appreciation, and support for you and your dreams. Once you have connected to that place of unconditional love, make the choice and give the gift of forgiveness to yourself.
With your hand on your heart say take in deep breathe and think of something or someone you love. This thought will facilitate you in connecting to your heart. Once there, say the following: "I forgive myself for judging myself as ________" Fill in the blank with whatever you have been judging that "you should have done better", or "you should have done differently" or "you should be anything other than you are".
I would also encourage you to state the truth about yourself after you have forgiven yourself,o Despair. You might state something like "The truth is I am a Divine Being having a human experience who is always doing the best I can in every situation. If I could have done better I would have".
If you choose, you can take the gift of forgiveness one step further, and choose to forgive someone else who you have judged as having acted in a way other than" they should have".
Since we are all one, and we come from the same source, what is true for one is true for all. The truth is when we withhold forgiveness from another, we suffer needlessly, and when we choose to forgive, we uplift not only that person, but also ourselves.
We can all benefit from this kind of upliftment. Give the gift of forgiveness first to yourself, and then share it with everyone you can. You will experience an incredible release of negative energy, and in its place will rush in love, peace, joy, and well being.
There is no prize to be won by the person who suffers the most, and you have suffered enough. Through the power of forgiveness you can end the suffering now.
